I've seen results for people troubleshooting external microphones and using specific pinned adapters (TRS, TRRS, etc.) to get it to work, but no results so far for just normal earphones/IEMs. results are varied? On the apple store faq they say the official adapter supports 3.5mm earphones, but the top customer review with 4k upvotes says it does not support them at all and the microphone does not work.
